But I should be good with 1800GB

I love cheap hardware… :D

Found a Western Digital 500GB drive for $58.  Thanks, Slickdeals!

1300GB is not enough

I just did the math, between my devices, I have: 910GB (Komodo) + 160GB (Krayt) + 200GB (Cervantes) + 30GB (iPod) = 1300GB.

First day of class

Today was my first day of classes for the Fall semester.  I’ve had a total of three classes so far, and fortunately, there are people I know in all of them.  Intro to Electrical is going to be, well, horrible, but I’m optimistic about my other two classes.  Operating System Design seems like it will be a lot of fun, and we’ll be messing around with Minix a lot for all of our assignments.  Object Oriented Design should be interesting as well, as it’s being taught in C#, which I’ve been meaning to learn for a while.  I’m just hoping I’ll be able to do all the homework in Mono.

Tomorrow is Fundamentals of Digital Electronics, Discrete Structure, and Logic Design.

Nah, forget the upgrade

Core i7 comes out in October, I’ll wait and see what that offers.

Back to School

Classes start tomorrow (or, I suppose it’s today at this point).  I’m finally done with EAC and most of my gen-ed requirements, so this semester is going to be purely engineering courses.  I’m taking Object Oriented Design, Operating System Design, Fundamentals of Digital Electronics, Discrete Structures, and Intro to Electrical.

Mmmm… Upgrade?

I’m waiting to hear back on a post I made over at Hardforum, but I think I’m going to pull the trigger on some upgrades pretty soon.  For just $320 (after a $40MIR) I can get 4GB of DDR2-800, a 512MB Geforce 8800GT, and a 1TB WD Hard Drive.

On a completely unrelated note, I just downloaded Advent Rising from Steam.  I used to have it on the original XBox, but I’d been wanting to play through it again.

New SDK provides an updated look at Android

A new version of the Android SDK, released earlier this week, also includes a newer version of the Android operating system in the emulator. This new version included several of the features that Google has been flaunting lately.

Streetview is there (though I can’t play with the compass in the emulator). I can emulate an SMS message, and I got two instances of the emulator to communicate with one another.

I’m really looking forward to Android’s release in a couple of months. I need a new phone, and I’m considering the iPhone, Blackberry, and Android. Android I think would be my ideal choice, but it’s not yet available, and as cool as the iPhone is, the lack of a physical keyboard annoys me. Add the fact that administering it from Linux would be a pain, and I’m not thinking too highly of it. If I had to buy a phone today, I think I’d go with a Blackberry Curve. It’s $150 from Sprint, and for $70/mo, I can get 450 minutes with unlimited data and text messaging, much better than the iPhone plan.

So much for Miami

Well, it doesn’t look like we’ll be heading to Miami after all, didn’t feel like driving into a hurricane.

Stupidity is the primary export of 21 year olds

There’s one week left before classes start up again.  A few of us wanted to spend the time coding, while some wanted to go on a roadtrip to Miami.  So, of course, our genious idea was to do both.  We’ve got a Sprint EV-DO card to share between our laptops, and we plan on coding all the way to Florida.  At this point, we’re not sure if the brewing hurricane will rain on our plans, but we have until tomorrow night to make a call on if we go or not.

Headed Home

By the time this posts, I’ll probably be headed to the airport, or at least in the final stages of packing.  I’m typing this early as my internet will probably have been cancelled by now, and I can’t rely on leeching off my neighbors.

I’ll be in Louisville tomorrow morning around 8:00AM, but I’m not sure when I’ll make it all the way back to Lexington.
